Winter 2010 ‘Planting the Seed’

Media Release

The foundations of Miranda Brown’s collections always start with nature!
‘Planting the Seed’, Winter2010 collection features Miranda Brown’s artwork representing the connection all humans have to nature.

Miranda says this is the most complex piece of art she has designed so far. “As an artist I’m illustrating that we’re all connected and this artwork is based on designs found in nature. It’s beautiful and complex artwork that touches the soul, combined with artisan techniques and timeless design – the garments are designed to reflect nature that restores and enhances our well being.”

A donation will be gifted to Enviroschools, a school-based programme encouraging children, their schools and their families to think and act sustainably. Students take action to save water and electricity, reduce waste, plant native trees and even grow their own vegetables at school.

The Miranda Brown Conscious Cloth stands for sustainability in fashion. The designs are classic to ensure they stand the test of time. The garments are made from quality fabric, many are hand-crafted and all are made in New Zealand. Fundamental to Miranda Brown are sustainable business practices, including the use of materials and processes, which take into account the impact on the environment. “Miranda Brown is about connecting the people to nature – we are nature, so look lets look after it,” says Miranda.

The winter collection uses authentically traceable New Zealand merino wool, tensel merino blends and possum merino blends. Central to Miranda Brown’s range is the shibori style of dyeing so her garments are totally hand dyed, hand made and crafted. This winter Miranda has introduced brightly coloured shibori scarves as accessories to light up winter’s gloom.

The collection is a lifestyle range, featuring merino tops, dresses and merino tunics with three different print options – all the prints have been drawn by Miranda. Other tunics are in silk georgette and for the colder regions there is a possum poncho.
